URGENT UPDATE: The City of Akron Fire Department is battling multiple blazes today, responding to three separate fires, one of which has left a firefighter injured. This alarming surge in fire incidents occurred on January 14, 2024, and the department is currently investigating the causes.
Firefighters rushed to a residential fire at 2460 25th St. SW, where heavy flames were visible emanating from the porch and garage. Upon arrival, personnel quickly evacuated those inside as live wires were found on the ground, prompting notification to Ohio Edison. Fortunately, the fire was successfully extinguished without any reported injuries—however, the cause remains undetermined.
In another incident, crews responded to a high-rise fire at 1791 Vernon Odom Blvd. Firefighters discovered flames inside apartment 108, leading to the displacement of a resident.
Additionally, a residential fire at 2736 Priscilla Ave presented significant challenges, with firefighters encountering heavy smoke and flames from a detached garage. Although the fire was brought under control, one firefighter sustained a minor injury and has since been treated and released.
