Doug Bruggeman, a retired high school teacher known as the “mayor of Peteyville,” spearheads this extraordinary initiative. Bruggeman and his dedicated crew have been hard at work for weeks, meticulously setting up lights and decorations to create a magical atmosphere that draws families from across the country. “They end up looking pretty sweet when they start to get lit up,” he noted, reflecting the excitement that surrounds the project.
This year’s display features an astonishing 59 sponsored light displays across three local parks, expanding from last year’s offerings. Bruggeman’s vision started four years ago when he aimed to light the iconic suspension bridge, a mission that has blossomed into this spectacular event. “One of the things I talked to my students about was having big hairy, audacious visions. This has certainly exceeded those expectations,” he said.
