SacRT Launches 2025 Holiday Bus to Support Foster Youth

Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) has introduced its 2025 Holiday Bus, aimed at promoting festive cheer while supporting foster youth across the region. Unveiled on Monday at Stanford Sierra Youth & Families in Sacramento, this initiative offers free rides until January 2, 2025. In addition to providing transportation, the Holiday Bus encourages passengers to make donations, either on board or through the SacRT website, to benefit programs dedicated to foster children.

This year, SacRT has partnered with Stanford Sierra Youth & Families, a nonprofit organization that serves over 2,800 foster youth. The organization focuses on essential mental health support, ensuring that children remain connected to their siblings and relatives. Notably, a significant portion of the youth served are teenagers, reinforcing the need for community engagement and support.

The initiative is not solely about transportation. SacRT officials emphasize that the Holiday Bus serves as a platform to raise awareness regarding the challenges faced by foster youth. Community members are encouraged to consider adopting a foster child, volunteering as mentors, or contributing in other meaningful ways.

Community Engagement and Events

This holiday season, SacRT is also hosting a “Stuff the Bus” event on December 6 from 08:00 to 12:00 at the Sunrise Light Rail station in Rancho Cordova. Community members can donate toys and gift cards, which will be distributed directly to foster youth.

Additionally, the Holiday Bus will participate in the Santa Parade, scheduled for December 13 at 10:00, circling Capitol Park. This event aims to foster a sense of community and encourage local residents to contribute to the welfare of foster children.

For those interested in making a donation or learning more about the program, further information is available on the SacRT website. This initiative not only facilitates transportation but also fosters community involvement in supporting vulnerable youth during the holiday season.
