UPDATE: A horrific multi-vehicle collision on Highway 87 in San Jose has left at least two dead this morning, confirming reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The accident occurred around 10:50 a.m. near Curtner Avenue, involving multiple cars including two Teslas and a Lexus.
Authorities have confirmed the tragic loss of an adult and a child in the crash. Two other individuals were rushed to the hospital, with their conditions currently unknown. The northbound lanes of the highway were blocked for hours, leading to significant traffic delays extending back to Capitol Expressway, before reopening by 3:45 p.m.
Firefighters faced intense challenges as they managed the scene, described by San Jose Fire Department Battalion Chief Bennett Yendery as involving “multiple vehicles involved with fire.” Fire crews quickly contained the flames, ensuring safety for all personnel on-site.
