James Franklin “Jim” Michels, a devoted family man and community pillar, passed away on December 3, 2025, in Morgantown, West Virginia, at the age of 76. Born on September 20, 1949, in Clarksburg, Jim was known for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those around him. His legacy is one of compassion and service, deeply rooted in his commitment to family, faith, and community.

Jim’s life exemplified the values he held dear. He served honorably in the United States Air Force, where he developed a strong sense of duty that would carry into his professional life. Following his military service, he dedicated several years to the US Postal Service, exemplifying hard work and commitment. Additionally, Jim played an integral role in the family-owned Michels Pharmacy, where his friendly demeanor and helpful nature left a lasting impression on countless customers.

His marriage to Janice Marie Crawford Michels lasted over 40 years, a partnership characterized by deep love and mutual respect. Following Janice’s passing, Jim’s love for her only intensified, and he often expressed a desire to be reunited with her. Their bond served as a testament to enduring love, which inspired those who knew them.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Franklin Michels and Elizabeth Ann Kellow Michels, as well as his sister, Etta Ann Stadler. Despite these losses, he remained committed to his family, serving as a strong support system for his two daughters, Carren McClurg and Sara Knight, both of whom experienced his unwavering love throughout their lives. The joy of his life was further enriched by his grandchildren: Kyle, Lydia, Ryan, Evan, Cayla, and Audrey. Their lives were profoundly influenced by Jim’s kindness and wisdom, which he shared generously.

Jim’s compassion extended beyond his family. He was known for his gentle touch and kind words, always ready to lend a helping hand. His faith guided him through many challenges and shaped his character, allowing him to touch the lives of many in his community.
