Minnesota River Surges Past Willmar 4-1 with Late Goals

BREAKING: The Minnesota River girls hockey team dominated Willmar with a stunning 4-1 victory, fueled by a spectacular third-period performance. Just moments ago, the Bulldogs’ Macey Portner netted three goals, solidifying their win at the Willmar Civic Center Arena.

This loss marks Willmar’s third consecutive defeat, plunging their season record to 3-8-0. The Cardinals initially took the lead with a goal from Gabrielle Revier at 12:31 in the first period, assisted by Lily Jorgenson and Alivia Fladeboe. However, Minnesota River quickly equalized with a power-play goal from Noelle Simonette with just three seconds left in the first.

The Bulldogs unleashed a flurry of goals in the third period, beginning with Portner at 4:37. She added two more goals at 12:20 and 14:37, finishing with a remarkable three-goal and one-assist performance. Minnesota River outshot Willmar 40-11, showcasing their offensive prowess throughout the game.

“It was an incredible team effort, and Macey really stepped up when it mattered most,” said Minnesota River head coach.

Cardinals goaltender Brooke Larson made an impressive 36 saves but could not withstand the relentless attack from Minnesota River. The Bulldogs will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next game.
