The anticipated adaptation of the popular video game franchise God of War on Prime Video is reportedly moving closer to casting key characters, including the roles of Thor and Baldur. According to industry insider Daniel RPK, actors Max Parker and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson are in discussions to portray these significant figures in the upcoming series.
While no official announcements have been made regarding the lead characters, Kratos and Atreus, the interest in Parker and Ólafsson suggests that production is progressing. Parker is recognized for his role as Sergeant Sullivan in the series Boots and as Mikhail Tanner in Vampire Academy. Ólafsson, known for his performances in Severance, The Deep, and Lady Dynamite, is expected to bring depth to the character of Thor, the Norse god of thunder.
The character of Baldur, previously depicted by Jeremy Davies in the 2018 video game, serves as the main antagonist who relentlessly pursues Kratos and Atreus at the behest of his father, Odin. Baldur’s complex storyline involves a curse of invulnerability cast by his mother, Freya, which deprives him of all sensation, ultimately leading to his tragic downfall at the hands of Kratos.
In a notable twist, Thor was portrayed by Ryan Hurst in the sequel God of War: Ragnarök. As Odin’s enforcer, Thor seeks vengeance against Kratos and Atreus for the deaths of his sons, Magni and Modi. Their tumultuous encounters culminate in a moment of clarity for Thor as Kratos implores him to reconsider his path for the sake of his daughter, Thrud. The narrative takes a darker turn when Odin kills Thor following his refusal to comply with orders to eliminate Kratos.
