Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King has been recognized as the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Offensive Player of the Year, marking a significant achievement for the university’s football program. King, originally from Longview, Texas, led a group of four Yellow Jackets who earned All-ACC honors from the Associated Press on December 4, 2025.
Impressive Season Highlights
In addition to King’s accolade, offensive guard Keylan Rutledge and place kicker Aidan Birr received first-team All-ACC recognition, while defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg was named to the second team. King has had an outstanding season, leading the ACC and ranking third nationally in total offense with an average of 329.0 yards per game. He was also named the ACC Quarterback of the Week five times during the season.
King’s performance this season has been historic; he is the only player in a power conference to average at least 240 passing yards and 80 rushing yards per game. This achievement places him in the company of notable players, including former Heisman Trophy winners such as Jayden Daniels, Lamar Jackson, and Johnny Manziel.
Key Contributions from Teammates
Rutledge has played a crucial role in Georgia Tech’s offensive line, which has allowed the team to lead the ACC in fewest sacks allowed, with only nine sacks over the course of 12 games. His contributions were further recognized when he received the ACC’s Piccolo Award, awarded to the conference’s most courageous player.
Birr has emerged as a standout kicker, leading the nation with 25 field goals this season and being named one of three finalists for the prestigious Lou Groza Award. His scoring total of 117 points ties him for the top spot in the country. Notably, Birr has successfully converted two game-winning field goals this season.
Van den Berg has established himself as one of the top defensive tackles in the nation, leading the ACC and all power-conference defensive tackles with 11 tackles for loss this season. His performance has been pivotal in Georgia Tech’s defensive strategy.
The collective efforts of these four athletes have significantly contributed to Georgia Tech’s successful season, culminating in a regular season record of 9-3 and a conference record of 6-2. This marks only the 16th nine-win regular season in the program’s 133-year history.
Georgia Tech, currently ranked 22nd nationally, looks to secure its 10th ten-win season when they face BYU in the 2025 Pop-Tarts Bowl on December 27, 2025. The game is set to kick off at 15:30 (local time) in Orlando.
