The annual Little Yellow Dog auction, held on December 13, 2025, at the Ho-Chunk Centre in downtown Sioux City, generated a total of $16,300 for charity. The winning bid was placed by JT Meyers, who purchased Bowen, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, from Kerry Johnson, who serves as the Little Yellow Dog Kennelmaster.
For many years, the Ancient and Effervescent Order of the Little Yellow Dog Auction Club has organized this event to support Goodfellow Charities, an organization dedicated to providing Christmas toys for underprivileged children. This year’s auction showcased the community’s commitment to helping those in need while celebrating the joy of pet ownership.
The event is not only a fundraiser but also a tradition that dates back to 1936. Each year, attendees look forward to bidding on a puppy, with all proceeds directed toward charitable efforts. This year’s auction attracted a sizable crowd, eager to participate in the bidding process and support a worthy cause.
As the excitement built during the event, attendees engaged with the puppies available for adoption. Jeff Wooldridge, a member of the Little Yellow Dog Auction Club, was seen petting Bowen, who was the star of the day. The atmosphere was lively, with participants sharing stories and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow dog enthusiasts.
The total raised this year marks the fourth highest amount since the auction’s inception in 2011, highlighting the community’s ongoing generosity. Past auctions have seen varying levels of success; however, the dedication of the members and supporters remains a constant driving force behind the event.
As the auction concluded, both Johnson and Meyers expressed enthusiasm for the outcome. Johnson remarked on the significance of the funds raised, stating that they would make a meaningful difference in the lives of many children during the holiday season. Meyers, reflecting on his new companion, shared his excitement about bringing Bowen into his home.
The Little Yellow Dog auction continues to be a beloved tradition, combining the love for dogs with a commitment to charitable giving. As the event grows, so does the potential to impact the community positively, ensuring that every year, children in need receive gifts that bring joy during the holidays.
