John J. Waterworth Sr. Passes Away at 80; Services Scheduled

UPDATE: John J. Waterworth Sr., a beloved figure in Dracut, has passed away at the age of 80. He died on December 9, 2025, at The High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, surrounded by his family.

Known for his dedication to service and community, Waterworth was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. His impressive career as an Engineer at The MITRE Corporation spanned nearly 48 years, from 1965 to 2013.

Waterworth was an active member of the St. Monica Parish in Methuen, contributing as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. He also served with the Knights of Columbus Council 14725 and volunteered at Lowell General Hospital, showcasing his commitment to helping others.

He is predeceased by his wife, Claire (Hamel) Waterworth, and two children, Amy and Kevin Waterworth. He is survived by his partner, Cookie Maggio, three sons—John Jr. (Heather), Scott (Jacqueline), and Brian (Lisa)—two sisters, one brother, and a large extended family that includes eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visiting hours on Tuesday, December 16th, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Edgar J. Racicot Inc. Funeral Home, located at 1400 Broadway Rd., Dracut. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 17th, at 10:30 AM at St. Monica Church in Methuen, followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery.
