Chester County Secures $1.35 Million for Health and Infrastructure Upgrades

State Representative Melissa Shusterman announced on March 15, 2024, that Chester County will receive a significant financial boost of $1.35 million in state grants. This funding is allocated to various healthcare, infrastructure, and recreational projects within her legislative district, utilizing revenues generated from gaming activities. The grants are part of Pennsylvania’s Local Share Account Program, established under the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, and are managed by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

The largest portion of this funding is directed towards recreation, with $350,000 awarded to Tredyffrin Township. This allocation will support improvements at Friendship Park, focusing on ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and enhancing overall access and amenities. Similarly, $350,000 has been granted to Schuylkill Township for vital renovations to its municipal complex, which will help modernize public facilities.

Healthcare initiatives also received a notable share of the funding, with $100,000 earmarked for Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital. This investment will facilitate the installation of ceiling-mounted patient lifts, a crucial enhancement aimed at improving both patient safety and the working conditions for hospital staff.

Infrastructure projects across Chester County are set to benefit as well. The Royer-Greaves School for the Blind will receive $200,000 for sustainable energy improvements, underscoring a commitment to environmentally friendly practices. Additionally, the Valley Forge Sewer Authority has been awarded $200,000 to replace aging pumps critical to the sewer system in Schuylkill Township. Another $150,000 will support necessary sewer system updates in Willistown Township.

Shusterman emphasized that this funding represents a concerted effort to reinvest state resources into local communities, addressing pressing needs such as deteriorating infrastructure, healthcare upgrades, and accessible public spaces. She highlighted how these gaming revenues are being strategically redirected to enhance the quality of life for residents throughout the district.

As Chester County prepares to implement these upgrades, the community can look forward to improved facilities and services that reflect the needs and aspirations of its residents.
