Apple TV+ has announced the cancellation of its drama series The Last Frontier after just one season. The Alaska-set thriller concluded its initial run with ten episodes, premiering on October 10, 2023, and wrapping up on December 5, 2023. While early interest in the series was notable, the streaming service has not provided a specific reason for its decision.
Starring Jason Clarke as U.S. Marshal Frank Remnick, The Last Frontier revolves around a plane crash that triggers a crisis in a remote Alaskan community. Following the crash of a prison transport plane, dangerous inmates are released, creating a significant threat to local residents. As Remnick works to safeguard the town, he begins to suspect that the crash was orchestrated as part of a larger scheme.
The series received mixed reviews, holding a 46 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 26 reviews. Despite the initial buzz, Apple TV+ has opted not to produce a second season, as reported by Variety.
The show features a talented ensemble cast, including Dominic Cooper as Levi Taylor Hartman, Haley Bennett as Sidney Scofield, Simone Kessell as Sarah Remnick, Tait Blum as Luke Remnick, and Dallas Goldtooth as Hutch.
Created by Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D’Ovidio, the series was produced by Apple Studios, with executive producers including Clarke, Laura Benson, Albert Kim, Glenn Kessler, and director Sam Hargrave.
As Apple TV+ continues to shape its content offerings, the cancellation of The Last Frontier marks another shift in its programming strategy, reflecting the competitive landscape of streaming services.
