UPDATE: Community members in Camden County are gathering today to honor 9-year-old Jordyn Butler, who tragically lost her life in a car accident last week. The vigil is set for 5:30 p.m. today at the Woodbine Boardwalk, where attendees will release lanterns in her memory.
Just a week ago, on December 19, 2023, Jordyn was playing outside with friends when she was struck by an SUV near the IGA grocery store in Woodbine. The Camden County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving the accident call around 7 p.m. The community is coming together during this difficult time to support Jordyn’s family and celebrate her bright spirit.
Organizers emphasize that this will be a peaceful gathering, allowing attendees to lift up Jordyn’s name and legacy. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support her family, describing Jordyn as a radiant child whose smile could “light up a dark room.” Her family expressed their heartbreak, stating, “God needed a perfect angel, so He took her home. Please pray for us during this hard time.”
The vigil not only serves as a tribute to Jordyn but also highlights the urgent need for safety on the roads, especially for children at play. With rising concerns over pedestrian safety, community leaders are calling for increased awareness and preventative measures to protect young lives.
As the community prepares for this emotional event, they encourage everyone to attend and support one another, showing that even in the face of tragedy, love and unity can shine brightly.
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as community members come together to honor a life taken too soon.
