Six New Year’s Babies Born at St. Joe in Just 12 Hours!

UPDATE: A flurry of joy erupted at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center early this New Year’s Day, as six newborns entered the world in a remarkable 12-hour span. The festive atmosphere of New Year’s Eve and the first hours of 2026 brought an unexpected surge of births, making it a night to remember for families and staff alike.

Nurse Melissa Thompson from the hospital’s Family Beginnings maternity ward described the excitement: “It was a very busy night, a very wonderful night.” Parents were racing against the clock, eager to welcome their little ones before the calendar turned. “Everyone was super excited,” Thompson noted, reflecting the palpable energy in the maternity ward.

The first baby of 2026, a boy named Elias Lee Davis, made his entrance at 1:38 a.m., weighing in at 5 pounds and 13.5 ounces. His proud parents, Alexis Barnette Ludwig and Jason Davis from Pomeroy, celebrated this special moment with their families, including delighted grandparents Mary Davis, Tami Hansen, Melissa Gray, Tonnie Ludwig, and Marvin Ludwig.

The excitement didn’t stop there. The second baby of the year arrived at 3:06 a.m., followed closely by another at 5:32 a.m.. The close race for the title of first baby of the year mirrored the thrill of New Year’s Eve fireworks. The last baby born in 2025 made their debut just before midnight at 11:44 p.m., with additional births occurring at 6:15 p.m. and 10:40 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

In a celebratory Facebook post, the hospital welcomed the newborns: “Welcome to the world, little ones—and thank you to our incredible Family Beginnings staff and providers! Delivering New Year’s babies. That’s why we’re here.”

St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, which has recently earned recognition as a “2026 Best Hospital for Maternity Care” by U.S. News and World Report, was also designated a Maternity Care Access Hospital. This designation highlights essential facilities that provide crucial maternity services, especially in areas at risk of losing access to such care. Only 147 hospitals received this important recognition.

The other newborns welcomed into the world during this joyful period include Charlie Douglas Miller, born to Hannah Barnes and Jordan Miller of Lewiston; Debbie Danielle Dawson, born to Kasey Bond and Noah Dawson of Pomeroy; Tate Jeffrey Lunceford, born to Hope and Leighton Lunceford of Lewiston; Evelynne Jean Morgan, born to Meg and Tim Morgan of Moscow; and Gradi Ann Lynch, born to Molly and Matthew Lynch of Clarkston.
