UPDATE: A tragic development unfolds in Jasper, Alabama, as authorities confirm that 4-year-old Johnathan Everett Boley, who went missing on December 31, 2023, has been found dead. The Walker County Sheriff’s Office reported the grim discovery today, igniting widespread shock and sorrow within the community.
Johnathan was last seen around noon on New Year’s Eve while visiting his father, Jameson Boley. His disappearance prompted an extensive search involving local volunteers and the FBI, who scoured the area where he was last spotted. Tragically, his body was discovered near his father’s home, approximately two miles away, with his dog, Buck, still alive by his side.
“We have located Johnathan, and Johnathan is deceased,” said Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith during a press conference, expressing the collective heartbreak felt by the community. The circumstances surrounding Johnathan’s death remain unclear, and authorities are working diligently to uncover the truth.
The search had been complicated by the discovery of potential explosives on Jameson Boley’s property, leading to a temporary halt in efforts. Sheriff Smith clarified that the devices found in the woods were eventually determined to be non-explosive. However, Jameson Boley was arrested after explosive materials were uncovered during a search of his home on Thursday. He faces charges related to explosives and two counts of chemical endangerment of a child, though further details about the charges have not yet been disclosed.
Johnathan lived with his mother, who relocated to Florida last year, but was visiting his father as part of a custody arrangement. Sheriff Smith addressed the community’s devastation, stating, “Like so many of you across our community, we’re aware and devastated by this news. This is going to be a very hard time for our community.”
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. As the community grapples with this heartbreaking loss, support systems are being mobilized to assist those affected by this tragedy.
