Lionsgate Reveals Title and Release Plans for The Housemaid 2

Lionsgate has officially announced the title and production details for the much-anticipated sequel to the hit film, The Housemaid. Titled The Housemaid’s Secret, production is scheduled to commence in 2026, with a likely release date anticipated for 2027. This announcement comes on the heels of the original film’s remarkable success at the global box office, where it has grossed over $133 million and is projected to reach as much as $250 million.

According to Adam Fogelson, Chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, audience response to The Housemaid has been overwhelmingly positive. “It’s clear from both the global box office and from the outpouring on social media that audiences have responded strongly to the totally unique and truly theatrical experience of The Housemaid,” he stated. Fogelson expressed excitement about continuing the story of Millie, the film’s central character, in collaboration with an impressive creative team.

The screenplay for The Housemaid’s Secret will once again be penned by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the original novel by Freida McFadden. Director Paul Feig is also expected to return, alongside stars Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone. It remains unclear whether Amanda Seyfried, who played a significant role in the first installment, will reprise her character.

The first film, released in 2022, captivated audiences with its gripping narrative. The synopsis describes a world where “perfection is an illusion,” following Millie’s journey as she becomes a live-in housemaid for the affluent Nina and Andrew Winchester. What starts as an ideal job quickly spirals into a dangerous game of secrets and power, filled with shocking twists that keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

The cast of The Housemaid also includes Elizabeth Perkins, Mark Grossman, and Ellen Tamaki, among others. Notably, Sweeney and Seyfried are not just in front of the camera; they are also executive producers on the project, alongside McFadden, Alex Young, and Will Greenfield. Production will be managed by Feig, Todd Lieberman, and Laura Fischer.

As anticipation builds for The Housemaid’s Secret, Lionsgate remains committed to delivering another thrilling cinematic experience based on McFadden’s successful series. With the team’s collective talent and the story’s strong foundation, the sequel promises to engage viewers once again in a world filled with intrigue and suspense.
