Utica Notre Dame Girls Basketball Shines with 55-15 Victory

UPDATE: The Utica Notre Dame girls basketball team is on fire, achieving a remarkable 11-0 start this season after a commanding 55-15 victory over Oneida on January 7, 2025. This is their best start since the 2017-18 season, and the Jugglers are eager to build on their momentum.

Coach John Snyder expressed pride in his team’s performance, emphasizing their stellar defense that kept Oneida at bay. “We played some good defense tonight and kept Oneida to a low possession game,” Snyder stated.

The Jugglers, fresh off a championship run in 2024, are determined to make their mark again this year. The twin sister duo of Erin and Ella Trinkaus have been standout players, but Snyder credits the entire roster for their success. Notable contributions from sophomores Lily Johnson, Caitlin Williams, and Jules Otis have fortified the team’s defense, proving crucial in their hot start.

In Wednesday’s matchup, Ella Trinkaus led the scoring with 18 points, while Johnson added 15 points. Oneida’s Samantha Szarek managed to score 9 points but could not overcome Notre Dame’s relentless defense.

The Jugglers’ journey this season has been bolstered by an impressive performance at a holiday tournament in Orlando, Florida, where they swept their competition. “We played some high-level teams in Florida,” Snyder noted, highlighting the confidence boost it provided.

Looking ahead, Notre Dame will face Rome Free Academy on Tuesday at 5:00 PM, with the anticipation of the annual Juggler Classic during the upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend. Snyder acknowledged the pressure of being a top contender, stating, “We have a big target on our back, but it’s important for us to stay focused and keep that positive mindset.”

The Jugglers are proving to be a formidable force this season, and fans are eager to see how far this talented squad can go. Oneida, now holding a 5-4 record, will host Vernon Verona Sherrill at 6:30 PM on Friday.

Stay tuned for more updates as the season progresses and the Jugglers aim to maintain their winning streak!
