The announcement was made during the Tech + Data Showcase at CES 2026, as reported by Deadline. This initiative aims to enhance daily engagement and compete more effectively against other streaming platforms.
The vertical video feature will allow Disney Plus to explore a diverse range of content types. In a statement, the company highlighted its intention to create a personalized and dynamic feed that spans various categories, including news and entertainment. This evolution in content strategy aims to transform Disney Plus into a daily destination for viewers.
Original short-form programming will be a key component of the new vertical video offerings. Additionally, the platform will repurpose social media clips and reformat scenes from existing long-form content. All these videos will be accessible through the Disney Plus app, enhancing user experience and engagement.
This is not the first time Disney has ventured into vertical video formats. In the previous year, the revamped ESPN app introduced a similar feature, referred to as “Verts.” Disney aims to expand this experience over time, adapting its vertical video plan to meet viewer preferences.
In conjunction with the vertical video rollout, Disney has also announced a new “brand impact” metric and an AI video generation tool. These innovations are designed to assist advertisers in creating high-quality commercials that are ready for connected television, utilizing existing assets and guidelines.
