Broadbent & Associates Welcomes Matthew Johns as Project Historian

Broadbent & Associates, Inc. has appointed Matthew Johns as its new project historian, enhancing the firm’s cultural resources team. With over 35 years of experience in environmental consulting, Broadbent aims to leverage Johns’ expertise to expand its services in architectural history, archaeology, and historic preservation.

Johns, based in Las Vegas, will be responsible for conducting primary and secondary research, preparing detailed historical contexts, and assisting with fieldwork. His role also involves contributing to publications and community outreach initiatives. He holds a Master of Arts in History from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where he was trained in public history.

Prior to joining Broadbent, Johns gained valuable experience with organizations such as Kautz Environmental Consultants, the Neon Museum, and the Las Vegas Justice Courthouse. His professional background positions him well to support the firm’s mission in preserving community history.

Commitment to Community and History

Margo Memmott, cultural resources division manager and associate archaeologist at Broadbent, expressed enthusiasm about Johns’ addition to the team. She stated, “Matthew is an excellent addition to our cultural resources team in Las Vegas. He is a personable and thoughtful historian who has been trained in UNLV’s Public History program.” Memmott highlighted Johns’ ongoing research into the background history of the Transcontinental Railroad in Northern Nevada and the World War II history of Boulder City.

Johns is also an active member of the National Council on Public History and volunteers with the Nevada Preservation Foundation, Three Square, and Lake Mead clean-up initiatives. His commitment to community service aligns with Broadbent’s goals of honoring and preserving the histories of the communities it serves.
