UPDATE: Lorraine F. Lease, a cherished educator and community volunteer, has passed away peacefully at the age of 94 at St. Luke’s Hospice in Bethlehem, PA, on January 9, 2026. Her death marks the loss of a beloved figure who dedicated over 30 years to teaching and community service.
Born on December 11, 1931, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, Lorraine was the daughter of Robert and Cora Florey. Following her graduation from Liberty High School, she earned her teaching degree from Kutztown University and a Master’s degree from Lehigh University. Lorraine spent 20 years with the Bethlehem Area School District, shaping the lives of countless students.
After retiring, Lorraine and her late husband, George M. Lease, who died in February 2003, enjoyed a vibrant life filled with travel, tennis, golf, and skiing. She was not only a devoted educator but also an avid reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast who cherished her time with the Moravian Village chorus and her friends.
Lorraine’s commitment to her community was evident through her volunteer work with organizations like Meals on Wheels, the Allentown Art Museum, and New Bethany soup kitchen. As a long-time member of Central Moravian Church, she exemplified compassion and service.
She is survived by her sisters, Althea Lazun of Bethlehem and Joyce Hess of North Carolina, along with stepdaughters Joan Johnson and Susan Baier, six step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, and six step-great-great-grandchildren, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Roberta Florey.
A Memorial Service to honor Lorraine’s life will be held at Central Moravian Chapel on March 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Bethlehem Memorial Park.
