Remembering John Davidson: A Lifelong Passion for Family and Fishing

John Wayne Davidson, a beloved figure known for his dedication to family and community, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories. Born in San Pedro, California, to Cleo and John Davidson, he was the eldest of three brothers and, from a young age, developed a love for the outdoors, particularly camping and fishing.

John attended White Point and Dana High School, and later graduated from San Pedro High School in the Class of 1969 alongside his future wife, Laureen Demaria. He began his career at the San Pedro News-Pilot, following in his father’s footsteps as a diligent worker. On October 2, 1971, John and Laureen were married, and they welcomed their daughter, Kimmy, in 1973.

The family often spent weekends at “the river,” where John found joy in water skiing, jet skiing, and parasailing, but his true passion was fishing. In 1977, he joined his father-in-law, Anthony Demaria Sr., at Demaria Electric as one of the first employees. John’s intelligence and work ethic made a significant impact on the business, as he fully supported his father-in-law’s endeavors.

In 1984, John, Laureen, and Kimmy made a pivotal move to Bullhead City, Arizona, fulfilling a lifelong dream of life by the water. There, John became a firefighter, ultimately achieving the rank of Battalion Chief. He also established Davidson Electric, where he continued to build a successful career.

Despite his commitments, John frequently returned to San Pedro to lend a hand at Demaria Electric, balancing work with his love for fishing. Known for his warm hospitality, John and Laureen hosted numerous family gatherings, particularly the memorable “Bullhead Easter Bunny Hop,” where relatives celebrated together on the lake, creating lasting memories.

John was deeply devoted to his family. He cherished Laureen, Kimmy, her husband David Hansen, and his grandchildren, Dalton and Renn. His family and friends will remember him as a great man—a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

As those who knew him reflect on his life, they remember John as someone who truly enjoyed every moment. His passion for fishing and the outdoors will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. John, may you catch that big bass in the sky.
