Library Hosts Symposium on Advances in Multiple Sclerosis Care

The Homewood Public Library will host a symposium focused on advancements in multiple sclerosis (MS) care on January 20, 2024. This event, part of the library’s monthly retired physicians symposium series, will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the library’s Large Auditorium.

Dr. Emily Riser, director of the Tanner Center for Multiple Sclerosis, will lead the session. Together with her husband, Dr. John Riser, she co-founded Alabama Neurology Associates in 1988. Their practice stands out as one of only two in the state certified by the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers.

During the symposium, Dr. Riser will provide a comprehensive review of the evolution of MS care, highlighting current research and the latest treatment options. A significant focus will be on the initiative to create a centralized “medical home” for MS patients. This model aims to offer coordinated, convenient, and comprehensive care, in contrast to the fragmented services often experienced by patients.

The retired physicians symposium series aims to foster discussion and knowledge exchange surrounding medical topics, research findings, and clinical insights. Each month, the program explores a different area of focus, making it a valuable resource for ongoing education.

The public is welcome to attend the January 20 program, which is part of the library’s commitment to adult education. This event not only emphasizes the importance of staying informed about medical advancements but also encourages community engagement in health-related discussions.

For those interested in the latest in multiple sclerosis care, this symposium presents an opportunity to learn from leading experts in the field.
