Community Mourns Aiden Keefe, Young Football Star Killed in Crash

Aiden Keefe, a promising young football player from Noble High School, tragically lost his life in a collision with an Amtrak train on March 7, 2024, in North Berwick. The 17-year-old was driving his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado along Elm Street when the crash occurred. He was the only occupant of the vehicle, and authorities are currently investigating the circumstances leading to the incident.

Remembering Aiden Keefe

In the aftermath of this devastating news, around 100 friends, family members, and classmates gathered near the Keefe family home to pay their respects. The solemn assembly took place on March 12, 2024, as Aiden’s family transported his body for cremation. Those present embraced one another in a shared moment of grief, honoring Aiden’s memory.

Madison Keefe, Aiden’s 19-year-old sister, described him as an exceptionally affectionate person. “He always made sure to tell his friends he loved them before hanging up the phone,” she recalled. Aiden, who would have turned 18 on March 13, was known for his caring nature, love for sports, and dedication to his family.

The memorial included a poignant tribute, with friends holding up banners adorned with signatures and a hand-painted maroon No. 3, Aiden’s jersey number. As the procession moved toward the crematorium, Aiden’s casket, draped in an American flag, was carried in a pickup truck, accompanied by his parents and sisters.

A Life Filled with Kindness and Passion

Aiden was not just an athlete; he was a multifaceted individual who cherished his family and friends. He regularly attended church and wore a St. Christopher necklace given to him by his father, Ryan Keefe. “Even though his time came really too soon, he had such faith,” Jenny Keefe, Aiden’s mother, said. “Faith that he was going to go to heaven.”

Aiden’s passion for football was evident. He was a standout player at Noble High School, earning a spot on last fall’s Class A South All-Conference first team as one of three wide receivers. Noble’s football coach, Keenon Blindow, called him an “explosive” player who contributed positively to the team’s culture. “When he spoke, kids would listen,” Blindow noted, further highlighting Aiden’s impact on his peers.

Aiden’s bond with his teammates was strong, particularly with Mark Lapointe, the team’s starting quarterback. “He was the fastest kid on the field,” Lapointe said, adding that Aiden played with heart and determination. “I would do anything to pass him the ball one last time.” Aiden’s friends reflected on his generous spirit, with Jake Haggstrom sharing that he plans to continue playing football next year in Aiden’s honor.

Aiden’s family also reminisced about his playful and mischievous nature. From carving “I love you” into the family’s new pickup truck to dreaming of cowboy life, Aiden was a source of laughter and joy. His mother shared how Aiden would proudly jam to Taylor Swift, regardless of what others thought, showcasing his genuine personality.

As the community comes together to mourn the loss of Aiden Keefe, it is clear that his affection, athletic talent, and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. The memory of this young man will undoubtedly continue to inspire those around him. His family, friends, and peers remember him not only as a talented athlete but as a loving brother, son, and friend.
