Lindsey Vonn Undergoes Successful Third Surgery After Olympic Crash

American skier Lindsey Vonn announced that she has undergone a “successful” third surgery on her broken left leg, following a severe crash during the Alpine skiing competition at the Milan Cortina Games. The update came via her Instagram account on Wednesday, where Vonn shared a photo of herself giving a thumbs-up from her hospital bed in Treviso, Italy.

In her post, Vonn reflected on the challenges she has faced since the accident, stating, “I had my 3rd surgery today and it was successful. Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago.” The 41-year-old skier emphasized that while her recovery is progressing slowly, she remains optimistic about her future.

Vonn’s crash occurred just 13 seconds into her downhill run on February 13, 2026. Following the incident, she was airlifted from the course to receive immediate medical attention. She later revealed that she suffered a “complex tibia fracture that is currently stable but will require multiple surgeries to fix properly.”

Her father, Alan Kildow, confirmed to the Associated Press that Vonn is receiving support from family members during her recovery. “She is surrounded by family at all times,” he said. Vonn expressed gratitude for the medical staff treating her, as well as the support from friends, family, and fans around the world.

“Thankful for all of the incredible medical staff, friends, family, who have been by my side and the beautiful outpouring of love and support from people around the world,” Vonn wrote. She also congratulated her teammates and fellow Team USA athletes, noting how their achievements continue to inspire her during this challenging time.

Vonn’s resilience and dedication to her sport have made her a celebrated figure in the world of skiing. As she navigates this difficult phase, her supporters are rallying behind her, hoping for a swift and complete recovery.
