Baltimore County Wrestlers Compete for Regional Titles This Weekend

Several wrestlers from Baltimore County are poised to make their mark this weekend as they compete in regional tournaments. With numerous athletes seeking to defend titles or set new records, the competitions promise to be a showcase of talent and determination.

Key Competitors to Watch

Among the standout wrestlers is Victor Marks-Jenkins from Perry Hall. He is on the verge of history, needing just one more victory to tie the all-time public school wins record of 195, previously held by Joey Thomas of South Carroll. Marks-Jenkins has already made headlines by becoming one of only six wrestlers to win four county titles, a feat he achieved at 190 pounds during the county championships.

Another notable competitor is Wura Idowu of Randallstown, who is aiming for her fourth regional title in the girls 2A/1A North Region tournament. Idowu’s impressive performances include a second-place finish at last month’s Who’s No. 1 tournament and a third-place finish at the MSWA Fall Brawl.

Also in the mix is Daegan Bishop, who has her eyes set on a third regional title in the girls 2A/1A North Region tournament. Bishop recently claimed victory in the county championships, defeating her opponents in decisive fashion.

Returning Champions and Their Aspirations

Several returning champions are looking to defend their titles. Julia Abel from Hereford is seeking her second Class 2A/1A state title after winning her second county championship last week. Abel, who competes at 100 pounds, previously captured the 2A/1A North Regional crown.

At New Town, Olasubomi Atanlogun made history by becoming just the second two-time county champion in the school’s history. Atanlogun secured his title by defeating Hereford’s top-seeded Adam Keever at 215 pounds.

Additionally, Emily Cabo from Dundalk is a seasoned competitor with a decorated career. The senior has won multiple county and regional championships and aims to add to her accolades in this tournament.

In the boys’ category, Drew Eveleth from Catonsville is also a wrestler to watch. He captured last year’s 4A/3A North Regional championship and recently added a county title to his collection at 126 pounds. Eveleth’s family legacy in wrestling includes his brother Toby, who is currently competing at Gettysburg and also won a regional title.

Other competitors include Justin Kavanagh from Perry Hall, who aims to secure back-to-back 4A/3A North Regional titles. After winning the 144-pound crown last year, Kavanagh recently claimed the 157-pound county championship, overcoming a concussion that sidelined him earlier in the season.

Defending champion Wyatt Rossi from Sparrows Point is also looking to repeat his success at 113 pounds, while Chase Ullmann from Eastern Tech hopes to secure his second title after winning the county championship in the 144-pound bracket.

As these athletes prepare for the regional tournaments, the excitement builds for what promises to be a thrilling weekend in Baltimore County wrestling. Each competitor has their sights set on glory, making the stakes higher than ever.
