Maurepas Softball Blazes Past Hackberry to Reach Sulphur Semifinals
Maurepas surged to a commanding 10-2 victory over third-seeded Hackberry to advance in the Class C quarterfinals on the road April 24. The sixth-seeded Lady Wolves now set their sights on the semifinals in Sulphur, facing second-seeded Claiborne Christian on May 1 at 2:30 p.m. Central Time.
The Lady Wolves exploded early, jumping to a 5-1 lead after two innings, then extended their advantage to 6-1 by the third inning. Hackberry managed to narrow it to 6-2 before Maurepas pulled away with four more runs in the fourth and seventh innings combined.
Coach Gabrielle Varnado, a former Louisiana state tournament athlete herself, expressed pride in her team’s first deep-state tournament experience.

Gabby Bell contributed two hits and a run scored, while Heydi Quamme tallied a hit and scored twice. Both Kayden Delatte and Sidney Lauzervich drove in runs, with Delatte also scoring. Zoey Hanna also added a run.
On the mound, Sidney Lauzervich delivered a dominant performance, pitching all seven innings. Lauzervich allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out 13 batters and walking five, keeping Hackberry at bay throughout the match.
