Layton Police Hunt Suspect Who Attacked Man and Dogs at Gas Station

Man Walking Dogs Attacked in Unprovoked Gas Station Assault in Layton

The Layton Police Department is actively searching for a suspect captured on surveillance video after violently attacking a man walking his dogs outside a Chevron gas station near Hill Field Road and Antelope Drive.

The assault occurred in the evening hours on April 28, when police dispatch received a frantic 911 call from the victim, who sounded as if he was running and urgently asking for help, according to Lieutenant Clint Bobrowski.

Surveillance Shows Sudden, Escalating Attack

The video reveals the suspect, described as a man wearing a green hoodie, aggressively approaching the victim. The attacker reportedly screamed at the victim before rapidly advancing and trying to kick the victim’s dog. A physical fight then broke out, during which the suspect punched the man.

The victim attempted to defend himself, and one of his dogs bit the suspect in the struggle. Police say the victim then produced a knife in self-defense, but the suspect overpowered him and stole the weapon before fleeing the scene toward the nearby Quail Cove Apartments.

Lieutenant Bobrowski emphasized this is a rare and isolated incident, reassuring the public there is no ongoing threat to community safety.

“This seems to be an isolated event,” Bobrowski said. “We don’t believe there is any cause for concern for the safety of the general public.”

Local Reaction Highlights Community Concern

Residents like Ko-Ko Kabwasa, a Layton dog walker, expressed shock and concern over the unprovoked nature of the attack.

“I’m up and down the street all the time with my dog, and I’ve never had any issues. It’s kind of scary to see what the world’s come to,” Kabwasa said. “And then you’re going to attack the man’s dog—what did you get out of that?”

Police Urge Public to Help Identify Suspect

Layton police are asking anyone who recognizes the man in the video to call 497-8300 and reference case L26-10572. Authorities advise the public not to approach the suspect.

Investigators continue piecing together details as they follow leads in this startling attack that left a man and his dogs traumatized and a neighborhood shaken.
