Rock Springs Soccer Ends Season With Big Win and Tough Loss Before Regionals

Rock Springs Girls Dominate, Boys Fall Short in Season Finale Against Star Valley

Star Valley, WY — The Rock Springs High School soccer teams wrapped up their regular season with mixed results Saturday on the road against Star Valley, setting the stage for next week’s regional tournament where every position counts.

The Lady Tigers delivered a commanding performance with a 4-1 victory fueled by Tahlia Knudsen’s hat trick, while the Tigers boys suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat despite an early lead by Mark Hamilton. Although the boys lost Saturday, Rock Springs entered the postseason as the No. 5 seed in the 4A West, boosted by their recent Thursday rivalry win over Green River. The Lady Tigers’ win on Saturday clinched them the No. 6 seed in the same regional tournament.

Saturday’s girls match was firmly controlled by Rock Springs, with Knudsen’s three goals sparking momentum from start to finish. The Lady Tigers held firm defense and midfield control, applying relentless pressure on the Star Valley squad who managed only a single goal late in the match.

Early Lead Fails to Secure Victory for Tigers Boys

The Tigers boys started fast with Mark Hamilton scoring in the fifth minute, giving Rock Springs an early advantage. However, Star Valley swiftly responded before halftime, tying the game at 1-1 and then edging ahead with a second half goal that sealed the 2-1 win on home turf. This loss closes out conference play for both squads but does not dampen their postseason prospects.

“We’re proud of our girls’ grit and determination, and though the boys came up short today, their season continues strong heading into regionals,” Rock Springs coach said following the games.

Both teams now shift focus to next week’s regional tournament where every seed impacts matchups. Rock Springs aims to carry momentum, particularly from the girls’ hat trick heroics and the boys’ competitive resilience.

For Rock Springs fans and the wider soccer community, these results highlight a turning point. With both squads qualified and positioned within the top six seeds in 4A West, attention turns to how they will perform under postseason pressure. This season finale sets urgent expectations for Rock Springs soccer as they seek to advance beyond regionals.
