CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – UConn football celebrated a significant milestone on October 18, 2025, by securing its first road victory against a power conference opponent since 2012. The Huskies triumphed with a commanding score of 38-23 at Boston College’s Alumni Stadium, marking a pivotal moment in the program’s recent history.
Leading the charge was quarterback Joe Fagnano, who continued his impressive season by completing 23 of 31 passes for a career-high 362 yards. He also recorded four passing touchdowns, matching his previous high this season, and added 25 rushing yards with a touchdown. This performance solidified Fagnano’s status as the only quarterback in the nation with over 1,500 passing yards and no interceptions prior to the game.
UConn improved its overall record to 5-2, with two of those wins coming against power conference teams during Jim Mora’s tenure as head coach. Both victories were against Boston College, with the first occurring at Rentschler Field in 2022. Historically, UConn now holds a 2-13-2 record against the Eagles.
The game began with Boston College scoring first via a 47-yard field goal. UConn quickly responded, as tight end Juice Vereen caught a 50-yard touchdown pass after being overlooked by the Eagles’ defense. Following a defensive stand that limited Boston College to a 22-yard field goal, UConn’s offense surged ahead, with Fagnano scoring on a two-yard run that put the Huskies up 14-6 early in the second quarter.
Both teams displayed offensive prowess throughout the first half. Boston College, now led by backup quarterback Grayson James, capitalized on the run game and connected for a nine-yard touchdown pass to tight end Kaelan Chudzinski. UConn responded with a field goal from Chris Freeman, who tied the program record with his 11th consecutive made kick.
As the first half drew to a close, Boston College seized a 20-17 lead with a 39-yard touchdown pass from James to Reed Harris. However, UConn was determined to reclaim the advantage.
Fagnano opened the second half with a 43-yard pass to John Neider, who secured his first career touchdown reception, putting the Huskies back in front. Fagnano continued his electric performance with a 25-yard throw to Skyler Bell, setting up another touchdown pass to Vereen, extending the lead to 31-20 by the end of the third quarter.
Despite a strong defensive effort from UConn, Boston College narrowed the deficit with a 25-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter. Nevertheless, a crucial third-down sack by Bryun Parham and Aaron Key forced a punt, allowing UConn to regain control of the game.
Bell capped off the victory with a 38-yard touchdown run after making defenders miss, solidifying the 38-23 score. This win not only highlights UConn’s growth under Mora but also represents a significant achievement for the program, setting a promising tone for the remainder of the season.
With this historic victory, UConn football fans celebrate a long-awaited milestone, while the team prepares for the challenges that lie ahead.
