A former standout at Stratford High School in Goose Creek, South Carolina, Montie Quinn has etched his name in NCAA history by setting the all-division single-game rushing record. In a remarkable performance, Quinn rushed for an astonishing 522 yards during Curry College’s 71-27 victory over Nichols College in an NCAA Division III matchup. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 465 yards held by Cartel Brooks of Heidelberg University since 2014.
Quinn’s record-setting game featured a total of seven touchdowns, with significant contributions from his offensive line and teammates. Notably, 399 yards of his total yardage came from rushing plays, including impressive runs of 85, 84, 76, and 64 yards. Reflecting on his achievement, Quinn expressed gratitude, stating, “Man, I’m just humbled and grateful. Breaking the record is something I never imagined coming into today. The O-line was dominating all game; receivers were blocking like crazy and coaches put us in position to make plays. This belongs to all of us; I just happened to be the one carrying the ball.”
Coaches Praise Team Effort
Curry College’s head coach, Todd Parsons, praised Quinn’s performance as “nothing short of amazing.” He emphasized the collective effort that contributed to the record-breaking achievement. “I think he’d be the first to tell you, records like this don’t happen alone,” Parsons remarked. “Our offensive line played lights out, our receivers blocked downfield, and our quarterback made great decisions.” Parsons, who was appointed coach during Quinn’s freshman year, has witnessed the player’s evolution and success firsthand.
Quinn’s journey at Curry has been marked by numerous achievements. Last season, he surpassed his own single-season rushing record by accumulating 1,652 yards on 243 carries along with 13 touchdowns in just 10 games. He initially set the school record in his sophomore year with 1,618 yards, following a freshman season where he rushed for 1,165 yards. As of now, Quinn is tied for the school’s career total touchdown record at 55 with Raphael Zammit and is just one rushing touchdown away from breaking the single-season record set by Zammit in 2002.
Looking Ahead
Curry College is set to host Western New England next Saturday, where Montie Quinn will look to continue his impressive performance on the field. With his recent accomplishments, he has not only made history but also set a high standard for future athletes at the college and beyond. As the season progresses, fans and teammates alike will be eager to see what more Quinn can achieve in his football career.
