UPDATE: A violent crime spree across Swanley has ended with the sentencing of Karl Kaynar, who terrorized workers at a Domino’s and a gas station. Kaynar, 42, pointed what appeared to be a firearm at staff, chillingly asking, “Do you want to die?” during the robbery on March 23, 2022. He looted the pizza shop, escaping with $500.
The next day, in a shocking escalation, Kaynar targeted an Asda gas station, wielding a knife and a shattered paving slab. He made horrifying threats, including the intention to throw acid at victims, before fleeing with thousands of pounds in stolen cash. Authorities confirm that Kent Police apprehended Kaynar shortly after the incidents.
Investigators recovered a handgun at the scene, later identified as an air weapon, and a knife linked to Kaynar was found at a location associated with him in Swanley. In total, he pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery, along with possession of an imitation firearm and a knife in public. The court also addressed additional charges related to theft and drug offenses.
At Maidstone Crown Court, Kaynar received a sentence of nine years and four months in prison, having already spent 18 months on remand. He will serve an additional 86 days for breaching a suspended sentence and will face a further four-year license period upon release.
Detective Constable Rosie Acton of Kent Police stated, “Kaynar’s actions left his victims in genuine fear for their lives. The gun he used may not have been a genuine firearm; however, it certainly looked very real.” She emphasized the serious nature of his threats, warning victims that they could be maimed.
The swift identification and arrest of Kaynar have brought some relief to the community. Acton added, “There is little doubt that had Kaynar not been quickly identified and arrested, he would have gone on to target further victims.”
As this case concludes, the local community reflects on the chilling events and the importance of safety in public spaces. Kaynar’s lengthy sentence aims to reassure those who work and live in Swanley, emphasizing the commitment of law enforcement to protect citizens from violent crime.
