Edgewater OL Ben Jones Earns Army All-American Invite Now

UPDATE: Edgewater High School offensive lineman Ben Jones has just been invited to the prestigious US Army All-American Bowl, recognizing his exceptional talent on the field. This announcement comes as the Eagles maintain an impressive 9-0 record this season, solidifying their position as champions of Class 7A, District 5.

Jones, previously known as Ben Bankowitz, will showcase his skills in the All-American Bowl on December 21, 2023, in Frisco, Texas. “It feels really good… I just give the glory to God,” said Jones, reflecting on this significant honor. The offensive tackle has been a cornerstone of Edgewater’s offense, starting every game since his freshman year.

This recognition is particularly meaningful for Jones, who changed his name in honor of his stepfather, Eric Jones. He has consistently demonstrated dedication and humility, stating, “It always feels good to get some recognition.” As a key player for the Eagles, he has contributed significantly to their undefeated season.

Edgewater is preparing for their next challenge against Boone on October 30, a highly anticipated rivalry game. “We’re running the ball great this year, and we just gotta keep doing it every week,” Jones emphasized, showcasing his commitment to the team’s success.

Jones credits much of his development to former offensive line coach Chris Jamison, alongside current coaches Shermane TeArt and Kenny Thomas. Recognized for his technical skills and blocking awareness, the 6-foot-3, 295-pound lineman’s agility sets him apart from others in his position.

Committed to Appalachian State since June 17, Jones praised the coaching staff, particularly offensive line coach Allen Mogridge, for their role in his recruitment. “They are building something special up there… I feel like App State is overachieving with the coaches they have,” he remarked.

In his senior season under first-year head coach Patrick Browning, Jones has thrived, attributing his growth to the supportive culture fostered in the team. “I don’t have enough good words to say about Coach Browning… You can sit around and talk football with Coach Browning for hours,” he shared.

Jones’s journey reflects not only his personal dedication but also the resilience of the Edgewater team amid coaching changes. With a tight-knit bond among teammates, they have successfully navigated the challenges of a transfer-heavy era, demonstrating their commitment to one another.

As the Eagles look ahead to the remainder of their season, Jones remains focused on their goals, viewing the upcoming games as opportunities to solidify their legacy. “We still got six more games,” he concluded, highlighting the team’s determination to finish strong.
