Rena Sofer Bids Farewell to General Hospital, Hints at Future Return

Fans of the long-running soap opera, General Hospital, are facing a bittersweet moment as actress Rena Sofer officially departs from her beloved role as Lois Cerullo. Her exit was confirmed by Soap Opera Digest, marking another chapter in the character’s journey on the show. In the episode aired on October 24, 2025, Lois shared an emotional farewell with her daughter, Brook Lynn Quartermaine, before leaving for Seoul, South Korea, to take on the role of tour manager for the musical act, Blaze.

Sofer’s association with General Hospital dates back to 1993, when she first portrayed Lois. After a successful run, she exited the series in 1996 to welcome her first daughter with then-husband Wally Kurth. In a brief return in 1997, she concluded Lois and Ned’s storyline. After a lengthy hiatus, Sofer made a triumphant return to the show in 2023 and expressed her excitement about stepping back into such a significant role.

Reflecting on her time with the character, Sofer stated, “I’ve played a lot of characters in my career and Lois is probably one of the top three characters I’ve ever played in 37 years of being an actress.” She emphasized the joy of returning to a role that has resonated deeply with audiences and acknowledged the support from her fans over the years. “If they hadn’t spent the last 27 years constantly making little buzzing noises about Lois coming back or me coming back as Lois, I wouldn’t be in this position. It’s inspiring and I am forever grateful,” she added.

Despite her departure from the show, Sofer hinted at the possibility of Lois’s return. In her farewell to Brook, she assured, “The second you need me, I will drop everything and come running.” This statement leaves the door open for fans to hope that Lois may grace the screen once again in the future.

As General Hospital continues to captivate audiences with its dramatic storylines, Sofer’s exit marks a significant change for the series. The show remains a staple of daytime television, airing on ABC, and has built a loyal fanbase over its lengthy history. While Lois’s current storyline may have concluded, her impact on the series and its viewers will undoubtedly endure.
