UPDATE: A 45-year-old man has turned himself in after allegedly hitting a vehicle carrying five people and fleeing the scene. Carlos Glenn McGhee Jr., also known as Carlor Glenn McGhee, faces serious charges following the incident that occurred around 11:53 PM on October 24, 2023, on Route 1 in Guam.
According to a magistrate’s complaint filed in Superior Court, McGhee was driving in the middle lane when he executed an unsafe lane change, rear-ending a vehicle with two women and three young girls inside. Witness reports indicate that McGhee did not stop to check on the occupants before fleeing the scene. The five individuals were subsequently transported to Guam Memorial Hospital. While the two women reported no injuries, all three girls complained of varying pain, including issues with their right eye, back, and stomach. Fortunately, follow-up assessments revealed none sustained serious injuries.
Just before midnight, driven by remorse, McGhee walked into the Tumon Precinct and confessed to being the driver involved in the collision. He explained to officers that he had left Kaeo’s Tavern right before the incident occurred. Fearing the consequences due to being on parole, he left the scene without checking on the victims. McGhee admitted he did not possess a valid driver’s license at the time.
The implications of this incident extend beyond legal repercussions; it raises serious concerns about road safety and accountability in Guam. Residents are urged to remain vigilant on the roads, especially in busy areas like Route 1.
Authorities are now investigating further, and McGhee faces a charge of leaving the scene with injuries, classified as a third-degree felony. The community will be watching closely as this case unfolds, with court dates likely to follow in the coming weeks.
As this story develops, stay tuned for updates on the legal proceedings and any additional information regarding the victims’ recovery.
