UPDATE: Arden Walker, senior defensive end for the CU Buffs, is emphasizing the urgency for his team to secure bowl eligibility as they face a critical match against Arizona on Saturday. With a record of 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the Big 12, Walker knows every game counts in the push for a bowl game.
“We’ve got to get to six wins, really,” Walker stated. “That’s the bowl eligibility number, so that’s what I’ve been preaching to a lot of guys in the locker room.” The Buffs will kick off against the Wildcats at 5 p.m. at Folsom Field, with the game broadcast on FS1.
Coming off a devastating 53-7 loss to Utah last week, Walker is determined to help his team bounce back. “We didn’t do what we were supposed to,” he said, stressing the need for a strong response. “We’ve got to come back out, and it’s a new week, so throw it out the trash and get ready for this weekend.”
Walker, a product of Cherry Creek High School, is also eyeing the 2026 NFL Draft. His performance in the remaining games will be crucial not only for the Buffs but for his future prospects. “I want to make the most of my situation because the unknown is coming up pretty soon,” he added.
The Buffs’ recent form includes a surprising upset over then-No. 22 Iowa State, and close losses to top-10 teams Georgia Tech and BYU. “We’ve got three wins we need to get and they’re pretty crucial,” Walker emphasized, highlighting the team’s potential to turn their season around.
As one of CU’s top edge defenders, Walker currently has 32 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks this season. He missed a game due to injury earlier this season but is eager to improve his production. “I kind of hate that I did miss a game because I want to help my team,” he said.
Head coach Deion Sanders has consistently reminded players that more wins lead to increased exposure and better opportunities in the NFL. Walker is committed to stepping up in all aspects of his game, saying, “I really want to take it to the next level, so I’ve got to continue just to keep stepping up.”
With the stakes high, the Buffs are gearing up for a crucial showdown against Arizona. Fans are encouraged to rally behind the team as they seek to clinch those vital wins and pursue a bowl game. Walker’s leadership and determination will be key as the Buffs aim to turn their season around starting this weekend.
