Delivery Truck Strikes Robinson Middle School Overpass, No Injuries Reported

URGENT UPDATE: A delivery truck struck the overpass connecting Robinson Middle School to its gymnasium on Thursday afternoon, causing cosmetic damage but thankfully resulting in no injuries. The incident, reported at approximately 1:30 p.m. at 110 June St., has raised immediate concerns about safety, though classes continued as scheduled.

Principal Bridget Dowling promptly reassured families in a letter, stating, “Please know that student safety is always our top priority.” The affected area has been secured while city engineers assess the structural integrity of the building.

The collision involved a truck from nearby McAuliffe Elementary School, located at 570 Beacon St.. Eyewitness accounts reveal that the truck lacked adequate clearance, leading to the trailer striking the base of the overpass. Lowell Police Deputy Superintendent Mark LeBlanc confirmed that the building remains safe after a thorough inspection.

City Manager Tom Golden noted that this is not an isolated incident, stating, “In fact, that same spot has been hit previously.” He described the damage as similar to “the siding of a house,” emphasizing that the structural steel I-beam was unharmed.

The incident has sparked discussions about the need for better signage or preventive measures at this location, as it shares similarities with the infamous Spaghettiville Bridge, notorious for trucks getting stuck.

As the situation develops, local authorities continue to monitor the area closely. Parents and community members are encouraged to stay informed regarding any updates from school officials.
