SGMC Health has honored Caitlin Edwards, a health unit coordinator in the Smith Northview Emergency Department, with the prestigious Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award for October 2023. This accolade recognizes non-nursing staff members who exhibit exceptional dedication, teamwork, and compassion while supporting nursing teams.
Edwards earned this recognition after demonstrating remarkable intuition in a critical situation. She identified a patient experiencing severe chest pain while waiting to be registered and promptly took action. Edwards escorted the patient directly to a treatment room, where she completed the intake process. Her swift response allowed for immediate testing, which revealed a life-threatening condition requiring urgent medical intervention.
Recognition of Exceptional Service
According to SGMC Health, Edwards’ ability to assess the urgency of the situation and expedite care was crucial in ensuring that the patient received the necessary treatment without delay. Her actions reflect the spirit of the BEE Award, which is awarded monthly to non-nursing staff members such as patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and medical assistants.
The selection criteria for the BEE Award include leadership, attitude, and the ability to provide clinical support. SGMC Health actively promotes various recognition programs to celebrate employees who embody their tagline: “Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness.”
