Veterans Hall of Fame Inducts MSgt George Roland Krigbaum

UPDATE: The Cullman Veterans Hall of Fame has just announced the induction of MSgt (ret.) George Roland Krigbaum into its prestigious ranks, celebrating his extraordinary military service and community contributions. This momentous recognition highlights Krigbaum’s deep commitment to both his country and his local community.

From enlisting in the United States Air Force in July 1960 right after high school, Krigbaum dedicated over 20 years to military service, which included pivotal assignments during critical periods in U.S. history. His journey began at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, leading him to serve in locations such as Keflavik Naval Air Station in Iceland and U-Tapao Air Force Base in Thailand during the Vietnam War.

Kriegbaum’s military career is marked by numerous honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. His profound sense of duty was exemplified during his escort of nine fallen service members home during the Christmas season, a mission that indelibly shaped his commitment to honor and remembrance.

After retiring in 1980, Krigbaum continued to serve veterans by taking on leadership roles in local organizations. As Commander of VFW Post 2214 in Cullman, he spearheaded initiatives such as renaming a street to Veterans Drive and restoring a historic artillery cannon, showcasing his dedication to preserving military history. His influence grew as he later commanded VFW Post 4190 in Decatur and rose to Department Commander of the American Legion in Alabama.

Kriegbaum’s legacy continues through his recruitment of over 700 new members into the American Legion, earning him the Gold Brigade Medal for twelve consecutive years. His mentorship in leadership and youth camps has inspired countless young individuals, imparting the values of patriotism and civic responsibility.

Beyond his military and organizational achievements, Krigbaum is a devoted family man, embodying the principles of sacrifice, humility, and service. His life story is a powerful testament to what it means to serve with integrity, loyalty, and heart.
