East Texas Baptist University Athletes Shine in ASC Awards

East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) has celebrated the achievements of its athletes this week as both Ryan Lord and Callie Humphrey received accolades from the American Southwest Conference (ASC). Lord was named the ASC Defensive Player of the Week after an impressive performance in the team’s final regular-season match against Howard Payne University, while Humphrey earned her fourth weekly award for her outstanding contributions to the volleyball team.

Ryan Lord’s Standout Performance

In a decisive 4-1 victory over Howard Payne, goalkeeper Ryan Lord showcased his skills, helping ETBU secure the third seed in the ASC Tournament. Lord’s performance included two crucial saves, particularly a key stop in the 34th minute that prevented Howard Payne from taking the lead. After conceding a goal early in the match, he maintained composure to keep the score level until ETBU took control with a goal just before halftime.

Lord’s recognition as the ASC Defensive Player of the Week is his second such award this season, affirming his vital role on the team. His ability to perform under pressure has been instrumental in ETBU’s successful season, culminating in nine wins overall.

Callie Humphrey’s Defensive Prowess

Meanwhile, Callie Humphrey, a senior defensive specialist, has also made headlines with her exceptional play. With her recent performance over the weekend, she helped ETBU achieve a perfect 13-0 record at home in Ornelas Gym. The team secured two wins, defeating both Austin College and UC Santa Cruz, and Humphrey’s contributions were significant. She recorded 39 digs and served seven aces, demonstrating her skill and leadership on the court.

This recognition marks Humphrey’s fourth ASC Defensive Player of the Week award, with previous honors awarded on November 3, October 20, October 6, and September 15. Over her two years at ETBU, she has amassed an impressive total of 921 digs, highlighting her consistent performance and dedication to the sport.

Both athletes’ achievements reflect the strong athletic program at East Texas Baptist University and their commitment to excellence in the ASC. Their performances not only contribute to their team’s success but also inspire fellow athletes and fans alike.
