UPDATE: The Branson School girls volleyball team is set to defend their title in an exciting rematch against Marin Catholic after a decisive victory over Redwood in the North Coast Section Open Division semifinal on November 5, 2025. The defending champions defeated Redwood in straight sets, clinching the match with scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-21.
This triumphant win propels Branson, now 19-7, into the finals on Saturday at 7 PM at Marin Catholic, where they will seek to avenge their previous loss to Marin Catholic earlier this season. The emotional stakes are high as Branson aims to remain the only team to win this tournament since its inception.
The Bulls showcased their determination and skill during the semifinal, quickly establishing a commanding lead. Outside hitter Ella Tsai led the charge with an impressive 14 kills, supported by Ellie Corsello with 11 kills, and both Blake Cussen and Abby King contributing 9 kills each.
Branson’s coach, Michelle Brazil, praised her team’s performance, highlighting the effective teamwork from the setters and back row defenders that allowed the middle blockers to capitalize on their opportunities. “The fact that Ellie got so many sets is indicative of us passing and playing defense so well,” Brazil stated.
Redwood, who entered the match as the top seed, struggled to regain momentum after a lengthy layoff due to a first-round bye. Branson’s quick start raised questions about the impact of their opponent’s inactivity. Branson libero Lucy Tusher noted, “Not being on the court is a big thing,” emphasizing how the Giants’ slow start affected their performance.
As Branson prepares for the finals, the tension builds. The Bulls and Marin Catholic have faced off twice this season, with Branson winning the first encounter, only for Marin Catholic to take the rematch in the MCAL semifinals.
The upcoming match is not just about claiming the title; it’s about pride and proving their dominance in the North Coast Section. “For us, we really want to defend it,” Tsai remarked, expressing the team’s drive to hold onto their championship title. “We don’t want to see that team take it because we feel like it’s ours.”
Fans can expect an electrifying showdown this Saturday as Branson looks to solidify their legacy in the North Coast Section while Marin Catholic aims to reclaim the trophy. Stay tuned for updates on this thrilling championship clash!
