UPDATE: The Chehalis Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is holding an urgent meeting on Monday, November 10, at 6:30 p.m. following the Chehalis School District’s surprising decision to withdraw from the Camp Cispus program this year due to financial constraints. This longstanding outdoor educational experience has been a staple for fifth-graders in the district for the past two years.
The PTO’s decision to support and fund this year’s Camp Cispus was met with disappointment when the district announced its withdrawal. Parents and community members are encouraged to attend this critical meeting at the James W. Lintott Elementary Library to discuss the implications and explore alternative outdoor education opportunities. Superintendent Rick Goble and Assistant Superintendent Trisha Smith will be present to address concerns and answer questions.
“This decision affects many families who cherish the Camp Cispus experience,” the PTO stated in a recent Facebook post. Many parents recall fond memories of attending the camp and are advocating for its continuation. The PTO emphasized the importance of parental involvement, stating, “Your voice matters — and your involvement helps ensure parent perspectives are part of decision-making.”
In a bid to make the meeting more engaging for families, Cub Scout Pack 9301 will host outdoor-themed activities for children in attendance. The PTO noted, “It’s a perfect match as we talk about exploration, leadership, and learning in the outdoors.”
Parents and community members are urged to voice their opinions and participate in this discussion that could shape the future of outdoor education in the Chehalis School District. The PTO is committed to ensuring that student experiences in the outdoors remain a priority despite the district’s financial challenges.
This meeting is open to all families and community members, highlighting the importance of collaboration in navigating this pressing issue. Attend to make your concerns heard and help influence future decisions regarding outdoor educational programs.
