Midco Foundation Supports Grand Forks Salvation Army with $10,000 Grant

The Midco Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to the Grand Forks Salvation Army, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential services such as food assistance to the local community. This funding is particularly timely, as the Salvation Army has reported a significant increase in demand for its services, serving between 450 and 500 individuals each month in Grand Forks County and East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

According to a press release issued by Midco on November 18, the local Salvation Army has experienced a 40% increase in food pantry requests in recent weeks. This surge underscores the critical need for community support during challenging economic times.

Community Response to Growing Needs

Ben Dold, President and Chief Operating Officer of Midco, emphasized the strain food banks are facing across the Midwest due to rising operational costs and the growing need for assistance. “Today, Midco is honored to support the outreach of the Grand Forks Salvation Army and share their story of hope with families across the community,” Dold stated.

Auxiliary Captain Eugene Ware, the corps officer at the Salvation Army, expressed gratitude for the grant. “This support will enable the Grand Forks Salvation Army to continue addressing urgent needs, such as emergency assistance for those facing food insecurity, and provide hope to our neighbors when they need it most,” Ware said.

Rhonda Erickson, Senior Community Relations Manager and Executive Director of the Midco Foundation, highlighted the importance of community involvement during this season of giving. “The daily acts of kindness and generosity keep many of our community members, including children and the elderly, fed and healthy,” she noted. “We’re so honored to help them with this grant and hope others will join us in recognizing them for their humble heroism.”

Opportunities for Community Engagement

The press release also outlined various ways the public can contribute to the Grand Forks Salvation Army. On November 21, the organization will host a community meal open to all, encouraging local residents to participate and connect with one another.

Additionally, December 12 marks Big Ring Day at Northdale Oil, where donations of $0.10 to $0.50 per gallon of fuel will be accepted. The goal for this initiative is to raise $60,000, with each $20 donation being matched to create $100 through both corporate and community support.

The Salvation Army is continually seeking volunteers to assist with various activities, including bell ringing, helping at the thrift store, and supporting its core programs. Those interested in contributing can reach out to the organization to learn how they can make a difference in their community.
