UPDATE: The next public forum for the Parker Middle School building project is set for Thursday, November 20, 2023, at the Chelmsford-Lowell Elks Lodge, starting at 7 p.m.. This vital meeting follows an earlier forum held on October 22, where community members were invited to share their insights on the project.
The urgency of this project is underscored by its current status in the feasibility study phase. The School Building Committee has recently partnered with LeftField Project Management and Ai3 Architects to spearhead the development. David Saindon, project executive with LeftField, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating that being selected for funding by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) is akin to “winning the lottery.”
The MSBA’s involvement ensures a reimbursement rate of 52% on eligible building costs, providing essential financial support for the Parker project. Tori Geier, project manager with Ai3 Architects, highlighted critical issues with the existing school, noting its aging infrastructure and multiple compliance concerns.
During the previous forum, attendees participated in an interactive mapping exercise, identifying challenges and opportunities at the school site. Participants articulated their vision for the project, emphasizing the need for town support, accessibility, and a focus on STEAM education—science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.
As the community gears up for another forum, residents are encouraged to voice their opinions and contribute to shaping the future of the Parker Middle School. This meeting presents an excellent opportunity for parents, students, and educators to engage in an open dialogue about the school’s needs and aspirations.
