Aurora Police Launches Real-Time Information Center to Boost Safety

The Aurora Police Department has officially launched its new Real Time Information Center, revolutionizing its approach to law enforcement and criminal investigations. Located within the department’s headquarters, this facility consolidates various technologies into a central hub, designed to provide immediate support to officers in the field.

The Real Time Information Center incorporates a range of resources, including city-owned surveillance cameras and Flock Safety license plate readers. Additionally, it utilizes Axon’s FUSUS platform, which enhances the department’s capabilities by streamlining access to vital information. According to the Aurora Police Department, the center aims to significantly improve both community safety and officer effectiveness by deploying advanced video technology for rapid intelligence gathering and real-time decision-making during incidents.

Drones Enhance Operational Efficiency

A notable feature of the Real Time Information Center is the recently integrated Drones as First Responders program. This initiative, as stated by Deputy Chief Phil Rathbun, brings the full capabilities of the center to life. The program now includes six drones contracted to provide aerial assistance throughout the city. These drones are intended to expedite emergency responses by aiding in suspect apprehension and evidence collection.

Since its inception on March 1, 2024, the Real Time Information Center has had a marked impact on local law enforcement. From March 1 to October 31 in 2024, the Aurora Police Department recorded 3,820 arrests. In the same timeframe for 2025, this number surged to 5,682, reflecting a significant 48.7 percent increase in arrests.

Furthermore, statistics show a drop in incidents classified as Part 1 crimes, with a reported decrease of 24 percent. This translates to 3,328 fewer victims in 2025 compared to the previous year. These figures highlight a clear enhancement in the police department’s effectiveness following the launch of the Real Time Information Center.

The implementation of this centre represents a substantial shift in policing strategy, emphasizing technology’s role in modern law enforcement. As the Aurora Police Department continues to evolve, the integration of advanced tools and systems is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing public safety and community trust.
