The Farm Store Celebrates Success at ‘Meet the Farmers’ Event

The Farm Store in Pottsville hosted a successful “Meet the Farmers” event on November 22, 2025, showcasing its growth and community impact since its opening nine months ago. Owners Angela and Josiah Meck shared insights about their farm-to-table grocery store, which aims to connect local farmers and vendors with consumers seeking healthy food options.

Since its launch in February, The Farm Store has faced various challenges but has generally received positive feedback from the community. “It’s generally been really positive,” Angela Meck stated during the event. The store has grown from sourcing products from approximately 20 farmers to partnering with over 50 farmers and more than 80 vendors, primarily located in Schuylkill and Berks counties.

Community Support and Growth

The Mecks’ endeavor has significantly benefited local producers, particularly those just starting out. According to Angela, their collaboration has been “a really big help for some of our farmers and some of our vendors.” The network includes a maple syrup producer based in northern Pennsylvania and several farmers near Philadelphia who supply niche produce.

The Farm Store’s impact extends to the Mecks’ own business, Honey Brook Farms, which has reportedly seen its sales double due to the store’s success. The event attracted numerous first-time shoppers, many of whom engaged with staff about product offerings and inventory.

“Quite a few customers had questions about the turkeys,” Angela noted, highlighting the store’s offerings, which include turkeys from Honey Brook Farms as well as from Koch’s Turkey Farm in Tamaqua and Dove Song Farm in Bernville.

Engaging the Community

The “Meet the Farmers” event served as a platform for customers to ask questions about various topics, including livestock, food marketing labels, and cooking techniques. Angela emphasized the importance of such interactions, stating, “One of the great things about people coming in here is that a lot of times, they don’t mind asking questions.” This contrasts with the experience in conventional grocery stores, where product information can be limited.

The Farm Store, located at 113 E. Norwegian St., operates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. With ongoing community support and a commitment to local agriculture, the Mecks remain optimistic about achieving their business goals.
