Kathleen Ann Giacalone, a cherished elementary school teacher and devoted family member, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, at the age of 88. She was surrounded by loved ones in her final moments.
Born on April 24, 1937, in San Pedro, California, to Vincent and Antoinette Vitalich, Kathleen later moved to Lomita with her husband, Rosario (Jack) Giacalone. For nearly four decades, she dedicated her life to educating young minds, working as an elementary school teacher for 39 years. Known for her passion for teaching, she significantly impacted the lives of countless students.
Legacy of Love and Service
In retirement, Kathleen embraced her love for travel, exploring new places and cultures. Her adventurous spirit extended beyond her journeys, as she nurtured strong family bonds, becoming a beloved matriarch.
She is survived by her husband, Jack, daughter ToniLynn (Tomo) Meek, and son Paul (Kelly) Giacalone. Kathleen also leaves behind four grandchildren: Tommy, Anthony, Jacquelyn, and Gianna, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Kathleen’s name to a selection of organizations that were important to her: Shriners Children’s, St. Jude’s Research Hospital, Disabled American Veterans, and the San Pedro Peninsula Cancer Guild.
Funeral Arrangements
A Funeral Mass will be held to honor Kathleen’s life on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Mary Star of the Sea Church. The service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., offering friends and family a chance to celebrate her remarkable life and enduring legacy.
As the community remembers Kathleen Ann Giacalone, her commitment to education and her loving spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her.
