Granite City Lumberjacks Surge Past Willmar WarHawks, 5-3

UPDATE: The Granite City Lumberjacks have solidified their position as the dominant force in the NA3HL’s West Division with a 5-3 victory over the Willmar WarHawks on Wednesday night at the Miller Buick GMC Rink. This win boosts the Lumberjacks’ record to an impressive 17-2-0-0.

The game kicked off with an early lead for Willmar, as defenseman Dylan Mees scored at 10:21 of the first period. This marked his third goal of the season, showcasing his talent after joining the WarHawks from the West Bend Power. However, the lead was short-lived as the Lumberjacks quickly responded.

Just moments later, at 1:40 into the first period, Garrett Plaude netted his 11th goal of the season, leveling the score. The Lumberjacks then took control, scoring four additional goals to secure their commanding lead.

Willmar fought back with two goals in the third period from Gabe Adams and Carson Wendorff, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Granite City’s offensive onslaught. Adams, a center from Bellevue, Nebraska, and Wendorff, a versatile player from Litchfield, brought some excitement to the game’s final moments, but the Lumberjacks held strong.

The WarHawks are set to face the Alexandria Blizzard next on Friday at 7:10 PM at the Willmar Civic Center Arena, aiming to bounce back from this tough loss.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Granite City as they continue their pursuit of a championship, while Willmar will look to regroup and find their footing against upcoming opponents. Fans are eager to see if the Lumberjacks can maintain their winning streak in the critical weeks ahead.
