Blaney’s journey began in 1958 when he commenced his ministry in Southern California. He served as pastor at the Brentwood and Los Feliz Methodist Churches in Los Angeles. After dedicating over three decades to ministry, he transitioned to academia, where he profoundly influenced students at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, as a Professor in the Religious Studies Department.

Throughout his career, Blaney taught critical courses including Social Ethics and Biomedical Ethics, and he led educational tours across Europe focusing on topics such as Christianity and Communism, notably before the fall of the Berlin Wall.
