17-Foot Christmas Tree Arrives at Minnesota Capitol for 2025

UPDATE: A stunning 17-foot balsam fir from Turck’s Trees in Litchfield, Minnesota, has just arrived at the State Capitol, where it will be decorated for this year’s Capitol Christmas tree on Monday, December 1, 2025. This marks a significant milestone for Turck’s Trees, chosen for this honor after winning grand champion at the 2024 Minnesota State Fair.

The tree was delivered to St. Paul on Tuesday and is being set up in the Capitol rotunda for public viewing, highlighting a cherished Minnesota tradition. According to a press release from Turck’s Trees, “It is a long-standing Minnesota tradition, but the first time for Turck’s Trees.”

Why does this matter right now? The balsam fir has become a symbol of holiday cheer, and this year, it will be on display for the public to admire well beyond Christmas. Known for its rich green needles and delightful fragrance, the balsam fir is a favorite among Christmas tree enthusiasts.

Turck’s Trees has a storied history, being family-owned since 1875. The business began planting Christmas trees in 1981 and has been selling them for over 35 years. Currently, the farm spans approximately 100 acres of Christmas and landscape trees, operated by Joan and Steve Turck, along with their family members across the fourth, fifth, and sixth generations.

In 2024, Turck’s Trees also provided trees to the Governor’s Residence in St. Paul, showcasing their commitment to quality. This year, they were selected from over 120 entries from members of the Minnesota Christmas Tree Association, a testament to their excellence in tree farming.

With the holidays fast approaching, anticipation builds as the Capitol tree is adorned for the season. It serves not only as a festive decoration but also as a reminder of the rich agricultural heritage of Minnesota.
