A ground-breaking ceremony took place on November 24, 2023, for The Retreat at French Creek, an ambitious new apartment and patio home development located in Sheffield Village, Ohio. The event gathered local officials, community supporters, and the construction team from North Coast Design Build, underscoring the significance of this project for the area.
The ceremony was attended by key figures including Sheffield Village Mayor Bob Markovich, Lorain County Commissioner Marty Gallagher, and Nico Samaniego, the CEO of the Lorain County Chamber of Commerce. Samaniego expressed his enthusiasm for the development, stating, “This is just a tremendous development. We’re so thankful to Mike Cloud and his team.”
According to Cloud, co-owner of North Coast Design Build, The Retreat at French Creek will feature 219 luxury, rental homes designed to cater to a diverse community. Construction is expected to commence after the start of the new year. The housing project will comprise a blend of one- and two-bedroom apartments as well as two-bedroom patio homes, all situated on 46 acres of scenic woodland and ponds.
Residents will have access to a range of amenities, including a clubhouse, fitness center, swimming pool, dog park, and a fishing pier. Cloud highlighted the importance of the development in retaining young residents, stating, “We all know that we need young people who want to stay here and start their lives here post education, post high school.”
The new housing development addresses a critical need in Lorain County, where the demand for housing is high due to the area’s appeal to businesses. Commissioner Gallagher noted the county’s attractive economic landscape, coupled with the pressing housing shortage. The location is strategically positioned near the Ford Motor Co. Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, which is anticipated to create over 1,000 new jobs.
Mayor Markovich emphasized how the development aligns with Sheffield Village’s economic growth strategy. He remarked, “By attracting young individuals, professionals and families, The Retreat at French Creek helps create the customer base that encourages new commercial growth. The development brings real economic benefits and strengthens the quality of life we work hard to protect.”
As Sheffield Village prepares for this new chapter, community leaders and residents alike are optimistic about the potential impact of The Retreat at French Creek. The project promises not only to enhance local housing options but also to invigorate the local economy, creating a more vibrant community for all.
